SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara senior Mason Tittle was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Male Athlete of the Week after his strong performance led the Gaucho men to a win at the Cal State Bakersfield Roadrunner Invitational to open the season last weekend.
Over the course of the two-day meet, the senior captain won the 50 free, twice, with times of 20.39 and 20.50 while also winning the 100 free (44.94). He helped the Gauchos to a win in the 200 free relay, swimming a 20.12 third leg split, while swimming an anchor leg split of 43.99 in a first-place 400 free relay.
In addition to his event wins, Tittle also had several top finishes, placing second in the 50 fly (22.05), 200 medley relay (21.64 split) and 400 medley relay (48.16 split).
It is the second time Tittle has been named MPSF Athlete of the Week after being recognized last season as a junior.
The UCSB men's and women's swim team host their first home meet of the season against rival Cal Poly this Saturday, Oct. 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Campus Pool.
