Junior Emily Ward (San Leandro, CA) received the honors of MPSF Female Athlete of the Week with a combined six wins over two Gaucho dual victories against Pacific (Jan. 26) and UC Davis (Jan. 27). She took first-place in the 50 free (23.96) and 200 free (1.50.96) vs. Pacific, two wins in the 100 free (51.59; 51.84), along with anchoring two 400 free relay wins (52.79; 51.32-meet's fastest split). This is Ward's second career MPSF weekly award (Oct. 25, 2017).
Ward stated, "I am confident the Gauchos are going to accomplish some pretty amazing things in these next few weeks. My teammates never fail to astound me with their accomplishments, regardless of how tough training is. Morale is high because everyone knows that they've put in the work and soon we'll be able to watch it all pay off. All that's left is to make sure we perfect all the details."
Senior captain Mason Tittle (Walnut Creek) received the honors of MPSF Male Athlete of the Week as he took part in three wins for the Gaucho men as they defeated Pacific (Jan. 26), finishing the 50 free in 19.77, 100 free in 44.53, and 400 free relay in a 44.11 split as the lead-off. He also swam the fly leg for the second-place 200 medley relay (21.33). This is the third career MPSF weekly award for Tittle, and he is just the second male to be a repeat winner this season.
The UC Santa Barbara swim team faces off against the Cal Poly Mustangs tomorrow (Feb. 2) in San Luis Obispo at 11:00 am. Come out and support the Gauchos at their final dual-meet of the season as they prepare for MPSF Conference Championships.
