DAVIS, Calif. - UCSB started and ended their meet against UC Davis with first place finishes. The 400 Medley relay swam by Pat Ota, Blake Nilsson, Pat Cary and Scott Lindberg with a time of 3:23.20 started the meet and the 400 Free relay swam by Bradley Matsumoto, Pat Ota, Scott Lindberg and Grand Hurst with a time of 3:04.48 finished the meet, and the win, for the Gauchos Friday, January 20, 2006 at Schaal Aquatics Center.
Brooks Felton and Brent Nolan kept the momentum going by taking first and second in the 1000 free with times of 9:30.59 and 9:42.34, respectively. Spencer Holbrook took fifth in that same event with a time of 9:49.15. In the 200 free the Gauchos took second, third and fourth, Porteous (1:41.70), Dame (1:43.47) and Peck (1:43.94), in that order.
It was the combination of second and third place finishes along with a handful of wins that gave the Gauchos the points. Pat Cary won the 200 fly, 1:52.28 with teammate Garrett Porteous taking second, 1:54.78. Porteous was able to grab a win in the 500 free with a time of 4:35.63 and teammate Brooks Felton took second, 4:38.41.Grant Hurst won the 100 free, 46.21. The 200 back was dominated by freshman Chris Good, 1:50.86. Myles Peck and T.K. Erwin battled for fourth and fifth in that event, 1:54.84 and 1:54.98, respectively.
The Gauchos head to the University of the Pacific to face off one of their biggest rivals in the Big West Conference on Saturday January 21, 2006 at 10am.
