MALIBU, Calif. - The UC Santa Barbara's doubles tandem of Mathieu Forget and Mbonisi Ndimande pushed the issue, but in the end, UCLA's team of Alex Brigham and Dennis Mkrtchian had enough in the tank to record an 8-6 win in the third round of the USTA/ITA Southwest Regional in Malibu, Calif., on Saturday.
Forget and Ndimande were the only Gaucho doubles team to advance to the third round. They fought hard, but in the end, the seventh-seeded team from Westwood was too much.
In consolation matches, a handful of UCSB players competed. Alex Gryaznov logged a 6-0, 6-1 win over UC Riverside's Kelly Dickson before losing to Zach Leslie of Fresno State, 6-3, 6-4. Alex Johnson fell to Cal Poly's Navaaen Beasley in two sets, 7-5, 6-0. Max Glenn lost to Pacific's Ben Mirkin, 6-4, 6-3.
The Gauchos return to action at the Southern California Intercollegiate at USC on November 2.
