LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Benjamin Recknagel and Alex Bouillin represented the UCSB Men's Tennis team in the main draw of the 55th annual Southern California Intercollegiate Tennis Championship on Thursday at UCLA.
The So Cal Intercollegiates has a wonderful and rich history which have included past champions Arthur Ashe, Stan Smith, Brad Gilbert and more recently, Gauchos Cory Guy and Simon Shen.
Recknagel was seeded fifth coming into the tournament and breezed past Michael Hui of UCLA 6-2, 6-0 in the morning but was then upset by BYU's Patrick Kawka in the afternoon, 6-3, 6-4. Bouillin took a first set tie-breaker and then defeated Emilio Mora of University of San Diego 6-1 in the second set. Bouillin then went on to play against Janosch Apelt of Azusa Pacific in the next round but fell just short; 7-5, 2-6,6-3.
Both Recknagel and Bouillin competed in doubles action earlier this afternoon, taking on Eger/Williams of Azusa Pacific.
Max Glenn and Alex Johnson will also be on the court this afternoon after qualifying for the doubles main draw with a 9-7 win over Hagemann/Satarelli of Concordia on Thursday. Glen and Johnson will face Johnson/Wang of USC later today.
