Santa Barbara Calif-The first day of the "UCSB Classic" was marred by several rain delays, which eventually resulted in the postponement of singles play. However, all doubles matches were completed and the Gauchos dominated their counterparts from Loyola Marymount, UC San Diego and Westmont, winning seven of eight.
Senior Mathieu Forget and partner Mbonisi Ndimande advanced to the "A" flight doubles final with wins over Kona Luu and Max Jigante of UCSD (8-2) and Tim Goranson and Bryan Cox of Westmont (8-4). UCSB's Axel Bouillin and Alex Johnson also posted a win in the "A" flight and will play for a 5th place finish tomorrow.
In "B" flight doubles the Gauchos were a perfect 4-0 on the day. Mons Knudtzon and Ziad Sultan will face teammates Max Glenn and Sasha Gryaznov for the title tomorrow.
First round singles matches play are set to resume tomorrow at 9 a.m. All of the suspended matches will pick up where they left off
"We were off to a good start in singles until play was suspended, due to the persistent showers," said UCSB coach Marty Davis. "We will resume play on both the Robertson Gymnasium and Recreation Center courts tomorrow."
