SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - The UCSB men's tennis season will kick start this weekend in the UCSB Classic tournament featuring the Gauchos and players from seven other schools including Cal, Nevada, Cal Poly, UC Davis, UC San Diego, Northern Arizona and Westmont.

The matches will begin this Friday at 1 PM and will continue on throughout the weekend beginning at 9 AM on Saturday and Sunday. The tournament will be played as a "compass draw" meaning that each player will get the opportunity to play four singles and three doubles matches. Each flight will include three, 16 player draws and the players will move up or down a flight depending on whether they win or lose.

The three flights will be played at three different campus venues. Flight A will be played at the Rec Cen courts, Flight B at Rob Gym, and Flight C at the Stadium Road complex near Harder Stadium.

On Friday, the tournament will begin with one round of doubles followed by a round of singles matches. The players will then continue the tournament bright and early Saturday morning at 9 AM with one round of doubles and two rounds of singles. Beginning at 9 AM Sunday there will be one round of doubles followed by one more round of singles.

The UCSB Classic will be the first opportunity for several Gaucho veterans -  Mbonisi Ndimande, Benjamin Recknagel, Axel Bouillin, Ziad Sultan, and Sasha Gryaznov – to return to the court for the first time this season.  It is also an opportunity for the team's newest additions – Miles Seemann and Jake Johnson – to begin their respective careers.
