SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Sophomore Ziad Sultan was named Big West Men's Tennis Athlete of the Week on Wednesday after going undefeated in both doubles and singles in the Gauchos' weekend matches against Boston College and #41 San Diego State.
On Friday, Sultan and his partner, Mbonisi Ndimande, clinched the doubles point for UCSB with an 8-5 victory at court 1. Sultan added a win at the No. 4 position in straight sets against Matt Wagner, 6-3, 6-2 to help the Gauchos to a 5-2 victory.
Ndimande and Sultan teamed up again on Saturday to record the only UCSB win in doubles against #41 SDSU at court 1. Sultan continued his dominance in singles play, beating Marvin Tawasi 6-3, 6-7, 6-1 to stretch his winning streak to four in row.
Sultan has since added to that streak with a win on Monday against Utah and has now won five singles matches in a row.
The Gauchos will return to the courts Thursday, Mar. 14 against #49 George Washington at the Rec Cen Courts at 1:30 PM (PST).
