SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team will head on the road to begin a four game road trip beginning in Boise, Idaho where they will face the Utah State Aggies on Wednesday, Mar. 27 and the 48th- ranked Boise State Broncos on Thursday, Mar. 28 before continuing on to Colorado.
The last time the Gauchos were on the court, they defeated #49 George Washington to conclude a four game homestand, where they went 3-1 to improve their overall record to 6-5 on the dual match season. The Gauchos, who have been playing their best tennis of the season, hope their momentum carries over after a two week layoff for finals.
UCSB will return to the courts against Utah State University in Boise, Idaho. Utah State is 5-7 on the season and has been hot lately with three wins in their last four matches. The Aggies are led by senior Sven Poslusny at the No. 1 position, who is 8-3 at court 1 in singles and has won his past four singles matches.
The Gauchos will stay in Boise to face #48 ranked Boise State on Thursday. The Aggies are currently on a six-game winning streak, with five of those wins coming against nationally ranked teams, and have won their past 26 matches at home in the Appleton Tennis Center. Boise State is 12-8 overall and swept #56 New Mexico 7-0 in their most recent game. The Broncos boast a tough squad including #29-ranked singles player Andrew Bettles who has accumulated a 16-4 record at the No. 1 position and has won his last 10 singles matches in a row.
UCSB also boasts a couple of players on winning streaks. Sophomore Ziad Sultan has won his last six singles matches at the No. 4 position and has partnered senior Mbonisi Ndimande to four straight doubles wins at court 1. Senior Benjamin Recknagel has also been on a streak of his own with four straight singles wins split between the No. 2 and No. 3 positions.
The Gauchos hope to improve on their 1-4 road record beginning with their match against Utah State at the Appleton Tennis Center in Boise, Idaho on Wednesday, Mar. 27 at 1:00 PM (MDT). UCSB will then face #48 Boise State the next day, also at the Appleton Tennis Center. Action is set to begin at 12:00 PM (MDT).
