SANTA BARBARA, Calif. –Men's tennis will head up to Northern California in their final road trip of the season to take on Big West opponents, UC Davis and No. 66 Pacific, in back-to-back matches on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
In UCSB's latest match, the Gauchos fell just short of upsetting No. 43 Oregon in a close 4-3 loss. UCSB swept doubles against a Ducks team that took 17 of 18 doubles points in their previous matches. The Gauchos carried over the momentum to singles play, winning the first set in four of their six matches, but were narrowly edged in the end by the ranked Ducks squad.
With non-conference matches out of the way, the Gauchos (1-1) have four games remaining on the season, all of which have important implications in their seeding for the Big West tournament.
The Gauchos will first travel to Davis to face the Aggies (0-2) at the Marya Welch Tennis Center. The Aggies have lost their last three matches, all by a score of 5-2, with their latest loss coming against Hawaii. UC Davis will host Cal Poly on Friday before taking on the Gauchos on Saturday. The Aggies are 6-9 on the dual match season, including a 1-5 record at home.
On Sunday, the Gauchos will continue on to Stockton to take on a confident No. 66 Pacific (2-0) squad, who has won seven of their past eight matches. The Big West-leading Tigers are undefeated against Big West opponents and are 12-5 overall on the season, including a 6-1 home record.
The Gauchos currently sit tied for fourth in the conference standings, having played only two conference matches, and hope to move up in the Big West standings with wins over the weekend.
UCSB will face UC Davis on Saturday, Apr. 13, beginning at 12:00 PM (PST) and No. 66 Pacific on Sunday, Apr. 14 at 2:00 PM (PST).
