UCSB Defeated by No. 71 Nevada, 5-2

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The Gauchos (2-7) continued their recent slide with a 5-2 loss against visiting #71 Nevada (6-2) on Thursday. UCSB was narrowly edged in the doubles competition and lost four of six singles matches en route to their fifth straight loss.

After switching up the doubles pairings, the Gauchos were only points away from snapping their six-match doubles losing streak after winning at No. 3 doubles and leading at No. 1 doubles. Gaucho teammates Teague Hamilton and Andrew Riminton gave the Gauchos the early lead in doubles with an 8-3 win on court 3. Nevada followed up with a close victory in the tiebreak at No. 2 doubles, leading to a decisive match at court 1.

Juniors Ziad Sultan and Tobias Galskov were serving at 5-2 in the tiebreaker before Nevada's Ouvrard/Allan rattled off five straight points to take the match 8-7 (5) and clinch the doubles point for the Wolf Pack.

Nevada quickly added two more points to their lead with straight set victories at No. 2 and No. 4 singles. Despite the 3-0 deficit, the Gauchos stayed competitive and had a chance to win as the rest of the remaining matches went to three sets.

Junior Tobias Galskov, who continues to impress at No. 1 singles, put the Gauchos on the board with a three-setter against the Wolf Pack's Moez Chargui. Galskov had a sluggish start to the match and dropped the first set 4-6 before gaining momentum in the second set to dominate the rest of the way. The junior only conceded two games in the last two sets and improved to 6-3 on the dual match season.

Freshman Teague Hamilton also had another strong outing with a three set victory over Ryan Andrada, who came into the match undefeated. Hamilton collected his fourth dual match win and has yet to lose a match at home this season.

Senior Sasha Gryaznov and junior Miles Seemann also took their matches all the way but were defeated, giving Nevada the four points necessary for a victory.

The Gauchos will be back in action on Sunday against Pacific. The match is scheduled to begin at 1:00 p.m. at the Rec Cen Courts.
