MALIBU, Calif. – UC Santa Barbara men's tennis will continue their fall tournament schedule in Malibu this weekend at the USTA/ITA Southwest Regionals at Pepperdine's Ralph-Straus Tennis Center. The tournament is set to begin on Friday, Oct. 17 and run through Tuesday, Oct. 21.

All of the Gauchos who participated in the UCSB Classic last weekend will play in this weekend's tournament in Malibu and will go up against players from Arizona, UC Irvine, USD, Pepperdine, UCLA, USC, Cal Poly, San Diego State, Hawaii, LMU and Grand Canyon.

Last season at the ITA Southwest Regionals, senior Tobias Galskov became the first Gaucho to reach the semifinals but fell just short in his bid for spot in the finals after falling to then-No. 18 ranked Yannick Hanfmann of USC 6-3, 6-3. This year the returning senior is seeded ninth in the tournament and will begin play in the Round of 64 against either UCI's Sebastian Heim or Arizona's Shoki Kasahara at 1:00 PM.

Also receiving byes into the Round of 64 are sophomores Luke Steeb and Erik Johnsson. Steeb will either battle Arizona's Naoki Takeda or LMU's Todd Volmari, while Johnsson will take on the No. 6-seed, Dennis Mkrtchian of UCLA at 1:00 PM.

Eight Gauchos will begin play in the Round of 128, beginning at either 9:45AM or 11:15 AM. Senior Ziad Sultan will face off against Big West rival Rafael Davidian of UCI, while UCSB Classic B Flight singles winner Cody Rakela will take on UCLA's Nikolas Ramadan. Jacob Johnson will play Othar Kordsachia of LMU at 9:45 to round out the Gauchos playing in the early matches.

Beginning at 11:15 AM, junior and D Flight singles champion Andrew Riminton will face Cal Poly's Devin Barber, while sophomore Teague Hamilton will take on Jonathan Hammel of UCI. Newcomers Morgan Mays, Chase Masciorini, and Nathan Eshmade will also participate in the late morning matches. Mays will play Pepperdine's Rakshay Thakkar, Masciorini will battle Mitch Maroscher of GCU, and Eshmade will take on Chas Okamoto from Hawaii.

In doubles play, Hamilton and Mays will face UCLA's Guzman/Rapp at 8:30 on Friday while the rest of the Gaucho doubles teams received byes into the Round of 32 and will begin play on Saturday. The senior pairing of Galskov and Sultan earned a No. 4-seed and will play SDSU's Bower-Stelter/Cevallos. Eshmade and Johnsson will take on Hammel /Heim of UCI while Rakela/Steeb will face UCLA's duo of Brymer/Mkrtchian. Gaucho doubles pair Masciorini and Riminton will play Arizona's Dunn/Jaruvang, also at 8:30AM on Saturday.
