Honolulu, HI-In it's second match of the year and first crack at Big West play, the UCSB men's tennis team swept University of Hawaii on the road Sunday afternoon 7-0.

The Gauchos, coming off a 7-0 win against San Diego State on Saturday, showed confidence and poise winning two of their first three doubles sets with a score of 6-0 and 6-3 respectively.

Chase Masciorini and Kristian Prior were unable to finish their no. 3 doubles match for Santa Barbara.

Following an intense three months of tournament play the Gauchos have found their groove kicking off the month of January with two straight wins and an overall record of 2-0.

"Our guys came out ready to play [today]," said UCSB head coach Marty Davis. "Our 7-0 victory [against San Diego] might have boosted our confidence a bit but they looked really sharp against a good Hawaii team."

In arguably it's quickest match of the season lasting 1 hour and 49 minutes, The Gauchos breezed through singles play winning their first set on every court.

Hawaii showed some opposition on court 1 and 4 as Felix Albert and Fabian Woehrl clawed their way back in their second set for the Warriors.

Morgan Mays and Anders Holmes finished the deal, however, coming out of their final sets with a 6-4 victory.

"There wasn't anything special out of these matches today, we just grinded it out," said Williams. Our guys were able to play with such control and this something we can all take from to get the season rolling."

UCSB has won 24 out of it's 25 singles sets on the year. With a rough nonconference ahead facing ranked teams like No. 8 UCLA, No. 5 Cal, No. 7 TCU this momentum can lead to major success for the Gauchos.

Santa Barbara heads home for a full week of practice before going back on the road against UCLA next Saturday. The match will take place on Sunset Canyon Court at 1 p.m.
