SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - As the rest of Gauchos back home prepare for the annual UCSB Classic on Friday, UC Santa Barbara co-captain Joseph Guillin (ranked 28th in the nation) prepares to face off against the most elite competition the NCAA has to offer. The 2019 St. Francis Health ITA All-America Championship's Main Draw will begin Wednesday, and Guillin has his sights set on making a splash yet again in the prestigious tournament, as he did when he earned a qualifying singles draw in 2018.
Last year, Guillin entered as the number 95 singles player and knocked off Texas Tech's Tommy Mylnikov, who was ranked No. 69 in the country at the time and was seeded No. 16 in the tournament. Now, Guillin is firmly situated as one of the top players in the nation. After his first round win in the NCAA tournament in 2018 plus his wins over tough opponents at ITA Oracle Masters less than two weeks ago, few will be surprised if he makes a deeper run in the tournament this year.
All men's draws will be played on October 9-13 at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the University of Tulsa campus, and ESPN3 will broadcast the men's and women's finals to a live audience on the final day of the event.
