UCSB downs Yale, 5-2
March 13, 2008
UC Santa Barbara, Calif. - The Gauchos open their eight-game home stand with a win to improve to 5-4 on the season.
The UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team fought through breezy conditions and a determined Yale squad at the Recreational Center courts this afternoon to post a nice 5-2 victory.
The doubles point came right down to the wire. After splitting the #2 and #3 matches the focus turned to center court where, fortunately for the Gauchos, Jack Hui and Philip Therp pulled out a tie-break win. That put UCSB up 1-0 and the Gauchos never looked back, ringing up straight set victories at #1, #4, #2 and #3 singles. To Yale's credit, they never gave up and fought to take the final two matches at the #5 and #6 positions in three sets.
The Gauchos now break for final exams before returning to the courts for Alumni Day March 22nd and what should be a challenging match against Dartmouth on Easter Sunday (March 23rd). UCSB's next seven matches, spanning till April 6, will all be at home.
