SAN DIEGO, Calif. - In its final home contest of the season, 38th-ranked San Diego proved to be too tough for the UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team as the Toreros prevailed 6-1 Saturday at the USD West Tennis Courts.
With the non-conference loss, the Gauchos fell to 11-8, while San Diego improved to 12-5.
Oscar Plotnik and Thomas Liversage clinched the first Torero victory with an 8-4 win over UCSB's Nick Brotman and Anders Dalskov. Mirza Koristovich and Jonas Mouly followed suit with an 8-5 victory over Carsten Thorstensen and Scott Hohenstein at No. 2 doubles. Pierrick Ysern, although still recovering from injury, appeared at No. 3 doubles alongside Matt Ozurovich. The duo defeated the Gauchos' Elad Stern and Max Taylor 9-7 to clinch the doubles point for USD.
In singles, five out of six Toreros defeated their opponent, with UCSB's lone bright spot being Nick Brotman at the No. 1 spot. In a three set match that went decided by a tiebreaker the Gaucho senior toped Oscar Plotnik 2-6, 6-2, 7-6 (8-6) for his sixth straight win.
USD's Thomas Liversage, at No. 2 singles, defeated Bijan Hejazi by scores of 6-4 and 6-3 and Mirza Koristovich rolled over Anders Dalskov 6-1 and 6-2. Ryo Sekiguchi, Jonas Mouly and Chris Coetzee all saw victories at No. 4, 5 and 6 singles, respectively.
The Gauchos remain in America's (alleged) Finest City to face 56th-ranked San Diego State on Sunday, April 9 at 1:00 p.m.
