MALIBU, Calif. - Sophomore Alex Konigseldt and senior Josh Finkelstein lost their singles match on Saturday afternoon at the ITA Regionals, ending the Gauchos run and a chance to play in the round of 16.
Konigsfeldt started off well against No. 12 ranked Jay Goldman of Arizona, winning 6-4 in the first set and leading 3-1 in the second. However, the native from Denmark could not hold on as his lead slipped away into a 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 defeat.
In the second match of the day for the Gauchos, Finkelstein was simply overpowered by fourth-ranked Matt Brooklyn of UCLA. The Bruin held the lead for the whole match, downing Finkelstein 6-2, 6-1.
The UCSB men will take a break from fall season competition until Nov. 6 where they will travel to Los Angeles to play in the Southern California Collegiate Tournament.
