Nov. 6, 2006

LOS ANGELES - Sophomore Bijan Hejazi advanced to the semi-finals of the Southern California Intercollegiate Championships with a solid win over UCLA's Jeremy Drean 2-6,6-1,6-1 Friday at the Los Angeles Tennis Club. Hejazi's run, however, was stopped by another Bruin, Mathieu Dehaiane 7-5,6-1 in Saturday's semi-final.

Overall the Gauchos had a strong showing at the 50th running of this prestigious tournament. Freshmen Philip Therp downed the defending champion and No.1 seed Adam Holmstrom of Denver to reach the quarters. Junior transfer Jack Hui also reached the quarter-finals for UCSB.

The fall season will conclude this weekend with the UCSB Classic at the Recreation Center courts.
