Gaining Ground
The ITA National Ranking committee looked favorably upon UCSB's Pac 10 win over Oregon, moving the Gauchos up to #58 in the rankings this week. The UCSB men (1-4) will put their ranking to the test once again as they head to Northern California on Friday to open the conference season against UC Davis as well as take on #24 Cal and Santa Clara.

On the Road
The Gauchos have played four of their five matches on the road this year, posting an abysmal 3-1 record. Their only win on the road came last week when they one upped the University of Oregon, 4-3. Philip Therp's latest heroics came at the No. 1 singles slot, where he outlasted the Duck's Marcos Verdasco to overcome a 3-1 deficit. However, the following day the Gauchos were outmatched by then No. 41 New Mexico, 7-0.

UC Davis
The reeling UC Davis tennis team has struggled in the early going of the season, only posting one victory in four matches. The Aggies most recent loss came at the hands of Big West opponent University of Pacific in a 6-1 pounding. The UC Davis men will look to reload at home against UC Santa Barbara Saturday afternoon at 1:00 p.m.

Bear Tracker
The No. 24 UC Berkeley men's tennis team has yet to play an unranked opponent in their first five matches of the season, coming out of the tough early season stretch with a 3-2 overall record. Most recently, the Bears knocked off No. 54 University of Hawai'i for the second time this season, edging the Warriors 4-3. The Bears are led by two nationally ranked singles players in No. 49 Kallim Stewart and No. 72 Pedro Zerbini. Together, the two pack a potent 1-2 punch. The Berkeley men also have the 16th-ranked doubles team in Zerbini and Geoff Chizever. With this lineup, the Gauchos will have a hard time fending off the Bears.

Santa Clara
Santa Clara University has only played one match on the season, beating UC Santa Cruz 6-1. However, the Broncos have a match against UC Davis before they clash with Santa Barbara on Monday afternoon. The Gauchos boast an 11-3 all-time head-to-head record against the Broncos.
