56th and Climbing
The 56th-ranked UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team has climbed even further into the national rankings this week dispatching six of its last seven opponents. During this span, the Gauchos topped No. 43 Harvard and Big West rivals UC Riverside and No. 56 UC Irvine. The wins put UC Santa Barbara into third place in the Big West standings (2-1) behind Cal Poly and Pacific who both have yet to lose a match. However, the standings will become a little clearer by week's end as the Gauchos will host UC Davis and Pacific in two of their three matches this weekend.

The Gauchos finally saw their winning-streak come to an end as No. 52 San Diego State handed UCSB its first home loss of the season. Senior Jack Hui and junior Max Taylor came up with the only victories for the Gauchos as they fell to the visiting Aztecs by a score of 5-2. The loss ends a six-game winning streak for the Gauchos while dropping their record to 9-5 overall heading into their last three home matches of the 2008 campaign.

Day 1: Fresno State
The UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team will have a busy weekend as they host a strong Fresno State team this Friday at the UCSB Recreational Center for their first of three matches. The Bulldogs have been on a tear as of late blowing out their competition in the last four matches. On March 26, the Fresno State men's tennis team dominated in its double-header beating Eastern Washington 6-1 and St. Mary's 6-1. Three days later the Bulldogs coasted past Depaul 6-1 and Gauchos' rival UC Davis 7-0. The Bulldogs now stand at 13-7 overall and cruise into Santa Barbara on Friday ranked at 53rd in the nation.

Day 2: UC Davis
The UC Santa Barbara men's tennis team will face a reeling UC Davis team on Saturday afternoon at the UCSB Recreational Center. The Aggies have dropped their last two matches to Fresno State 7-0 and DePaul 5-2. However, UC Davis is still in the hunt for the Big West crown as they face second place Cal Poly on Sunday as well. The Aggies are currently even with an 8-8 record on the season coming into Saturday's Big West showdown with Santa Barbara.

Day 3: University of Pacific
The University of Pacific men's tennis team boasts an impressive four-game winning streak defeating Georgia Southern, Marquette, DePaul and Nevada. After downing Nevada on March 30, freshman David Gonzalez was announced Big West player of the week for the Tigers. Gonzalez, a native of Ecuador, has led Pacific with a 13-2 overall singles record defeating DePaul's Jose Moncada 6-1, 7-6(4) and Nevada's Alex Daruty 6-4, 7-6(9) in singles action this past week. Currently, Gonzalez and the Tigers stand on top of the Big West standings with a 2-0 record topping UC Davis and UC Riverside in the first half of the 2008 season. The Tigers will travel to Cal Poly on Saturday before cruising into Santa Barbara to play an important Big West match.
