IRVINE, Calif. - Senior Alex Konigsfeldt and sophomore Benjamin Recknagel were each selected First Team All-Big West in singles, while the doubles tandem of Konigsfeldt and Taylor Chavez-Goggin also earned first team status, the league announced Tuesday.
For Konigsfeldt, the honor was nothing new. It was the third time that the native of Vedbaek, Denmark has been a first team choice and the fourth time overall that he has achieved some level of All-Big West plaudits. It was the second time that he and Chavez-Goggin have teamed to earn first team recognition and the third time overall that he has been a first-teamer in doubles.
Recknagel is becoming a regular on the First Team All-Big West list as well. A native of Munich, Germany, he was also first team as a sophomore in 2010.
In addition to the Konigsfeldt, Recknagel and Chavez-Goggin, Gaucho junior Mathieu Forget was selected Second Team All-Big West by the league's coaches.
UC Irvine, which won the 2011 Big West title, nearly swept the major honors. Anteater Chris Kearny was named Player of the Year, their coach, Trevor Kronemann, was named Coach of the Year, and Ryan Cheung shared Freshman of the Year honors with Marco Comuzzo of Cal Poly.
