Ryan Martin Earns All-American Honors for Second Straight Year

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara's Ryan Martin has been named All-American for his performance in the 800 meters at the NCAA Championships in Des Moines, Iowa last weekend.

Martin, a senior, finished eighth in the final of the 800 meters with a time of 1:47.62.  He was near the front of the pack for most of the race but fell back in the home stretch.  Still, by qualifying for the final with a preliminary time of 1:46.29, the fourth fastest qualifying time, Martin earned All-American status for the second straight year.

In May, Martin set a new UCSB record in the 800 meters as he clocked a 1:45.34 in the Big West Championship at UC Irvine.  In that race, he came from behind and edged Irvine's Charles Jock with a lunge at the end.  Jock has run the fastest time in the nation this year.

Martin has qualified for the U.S. Outdoor Track and Field Championship with an "A" Standard time.  The championships are set for June 23-26 in Eugene, Ore.
