Winton Nguyen will be a familiar face on the Gaucho 4 x 400m team after helping the Gauchos win the 2013 Big West relay title. He is the Men's Track and Field Golden Eagle Scholar Award recipient, honored for his GPA. Had a breakthrough moment at the 2013 Big West Championships, dipping under the 48 second mark twice enroute to 5th place honors. 

2012-2013:
Helped lead the Gaucho men to the top of the Big West podium in the 4 x 400m relay. Ran on the Gauchos third place 4 x 100m Big West Championship team. Made a statement in the 400m by qualifying for the Big West final with a time of 47.95- a PR for one night as he went on to clip a 47.85 in the final to take 5th at the Big West Championships. Ran on the Gauchos NCAA First Round 4 x 400m squad. 

2011-2012: Ngyuyen competed in the 400m dash and the 4x400m relay throughout the
season…Went second on the 4x400m relay at big west and helped his team to a
third place finish…Recorded a best time of 48.87 in the 400m dash at the Oxy Invite.

2010-11: 
Nguyen made an impact in the sprints, competing mainly in the 400m and the 4 x 400m relay team...He ran his personal best of 49.36 at the Cal Poly Dual meet placing third overall...He qualified for the Big West Conference Championship preliminary round with a time of 49.93...Nguyen assisted the men's 4 x 400m relay team to a first place finish at the Cal Poly Invite with a combined team time of 3:13.34.

Prep: Nguyen was team MVP in his freshman through junior years of high school...Earned the Coach's Award his senior year...League Champion in the 400m with a time of 50.58 his sophomore year...League Champion in the 400m, 200m and Triple Jump his junior years...Held the fastest time in the Central Coast Section in the 400m with a time of 49.46...Scholar Athlete all four years of high school...Milpitas High School Apollo Award for US History his junior year...Earned Community Service Award his senior year...Made Honor Roll all four years of high school.

Personal: Parents are Dona Pham and Francis Nguyen...Has one older brother Webster and one younger brother Westley...Aspires to be a CPA one day... Member of the Accounting Association and CPA Law Society... Chose UCSB because of the beautiful campus, diverse student body and academic opportunities...In his free time, Nguyen enjoys spending time with family and friends, playing video games, eating, watching movies, rollerblading and playing hockey...Favorite movies are "Finding Nemo", "Three Ninjas", and "How to Train Your Dragon"...Listens to India Arie...Favorite books are "To Kill a Mocking Bird" and "Lord of the Flies"...Favorite Athletes are Allyson Felix and Jeremy Wariner.
