O'Connell Wins 10,000m Gold, Gauchos Lead Big West after Day 1

Fullerton, Calif- Senior Kelsey O'Connell brought Day 1 of the 2017 Big West Championships to a stunning conclusion with a lifetime best performance and Big West Conference win in the Women's 10,000m. After setting a personal best and Bronze medal performance in the 3000m Steeplechase earlier in the meet, O'Connell found the strength and determination over 25 laps to earn her first career Gold in her last race in the Gaucho uniform.

"I've never seen anything like that" reflected a proud Head Coach Pete Dolan after her race, "nights like tonight prove that if you put in the work, truly anything is possible."

Thanks to peak performances by O'Connell and many other Gauchos, both teams enter Day 2 on top of the team standings.
