Santa Barbara, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara Track and Field is set for another home meet at Westmont College this upcoming weekend, facing off against the likes of Big West rival UC Irvine and newly anointed Division 1 team UC San Diego for the annual All-UC meet. The meet will commence Saturday on March 4th with field events starting at 12:00 pm with the men's hammer throw, while running events will start at 1:30 pm starting with the women's steeplechase. The meet will be scored 7-5-4-3-2-1 with two per team scoring in individual events. Relays will be scored 7-5-3.
Irvine comes off a pair of 7th place team finishes from last year's Big West Conference Championships while UC San Diego returns a 2nd place finishing squad on the men's side and a 4th place finish on the women's side from the 2017 CCAA Conference Championships. Last year's All-UC meet included team wins on the men's and women's side for the Gauchos, and they hope to replicate that performance come Saturday when they face off against the Anteaters and Tritons once again.
Tri Meet Parking
On campus parking is available with the lot adjacent to track as well as at the Physical Plants and Tennis Courts lots just up the hill from the track. Bus parking will be in the rock area behind the track building. A link to the campus map can be found here.
Gauchos to Watch
SR Blake DeHaven started off the season on a high note with a win and a new personal best in the 800m at 1:54.79 and is keen to keep that momentum going into March.
SR Patrick Bourke achieved victories in both the mile and 3000m at the last tri meet, and with a similar double planned for this weekend he'll be eager to get after it once again.
JR Joshua Rennick will be set to take another crack at the high jump this weekend after setting a new personal best at a height of 6' 8 ¾" at the last tri meet.
JR Kordell Hampton will look to throw a bit farther this weekend after winning in the hammer and discus with slightly heavier implements two weeks ago.
JR Shamara Carney is coming off a new personal best in the 200m of 25.05 and a solid indoor campaign that saw her lower her 400m personal best to 56.22 back in late January, so she could do some damage in either event come Saturday.
SR Morgan Simpson took the 400m at the last tri meet in a personal best of 56.53 and also won the 400m at last year's All UC meet, so look for her to possibly repeat last year's victory.
With her school recording setting performance in the 3000m at the last tri meet, SR Jenna Hinkle should look to take on the 1500m/3000m double with little contest.
SO Celeste Wilson will be making her steeplechase debut this weekend, so she'll be dead set on seeing what she can do to her current best of 11:00.60 which she achieved at last year's conference meet.
JR Hope Bender will make her outdoor debut this Saturday focusing on the 100m hurdles as she gears up for the NCAA Indoor meet on March 9th.
SR Kiely Gode will hopefully have a bit more leeway between the long jump and the hammer throw times as she will be looking to double in both once again this weekend after winning both at the last tri meet.
Lastly, JR Alivia Schlueter will be taking on the triple jump this weekend again winning at the last tri meet with a solid 38' 2 ¾" mark.
