Gauchos to Watch
As stated above, Jenna Hinkle will be the lone Gaucho at Stanford slated to compete in the women's 5000m. She's currently undefeated at the conference level and just completed a 4:19.11/2:08.01 1500m/800m double at last week's Aztec Invitational, so she's prime to look for an NCAA west regional qualifier in the event.
JR Hope Bender will be tackling the 400m hurdles at UCLA this weekend after hitting 14.04 and 13.82 in her two heats at the 100m hurdles last weekend. Her personal best of 58.87 stems back from her individual victory at the Big West conference championships, which was also the last time she ran the event.
SR Kiely Gode comes off a huge 20' 2 ½" jump from last week with a 2.1 m/s tailwind, so she'll be set on trying to put up a similar mark with a hopefully more cooperate wind gauge for a legal jump.
SR Patrick Bourke will be set to run the invitational mile on Friday, and after hitting a new personal best in the 1500m last week at 3:47.82, he'll look to see if he can inch even closer to a regional qualifying mark.
SR Sike Azu-Irondi opened up for the first time this season last week with a 10.60/21.10 100m/200m double, so more exposure to competition will be just what he wants this Saturday as he aims to shave off some precious hundredths of seconds in his NCAA west regional pursuit.
JR Kordell Hampton is fresh off an incredible two day session of rounds in the discus, culminating in a new school record of 186' 9". Look for him to post some more solid marks in his marquee event come Saturday.
