March 26, 2011
STANFORD, Calif. -- Amidst the looming clouds and intermittent showers, several Gauchos placed top ten in the distance events at the Stanford Invitational hosted by Cobb Track and Angell Field.
Amanda Moreno had a triumphant win in the women's 5,000m run with a final time of 16:16.53 and more than two seconds in front of second place runner Laura Carlyle from Oregon State and more than half a minute faster than her 5,000m time at Ben Brown Invitational. Her time makes her the fastest woman in the Big West so far this season and ahead of the second fastest time by nearly 40 seconds.
Julian deRubira finished eighth overall in the men's 5000m run in 14:11.90. This time puts deRubira as the second fastest man in the Big West so far this season. Breanne Strenkowski placed sixth for the women in the 10,000m run in a time of 34:44.95. As a result, Strenkowski currently holds the fastest 10,000m time for women in the Big West.
The rest of the Gauchos are competing at the Cal/Nevada Championships held at Claremont Mudd-Scripps for the weekend.
