EUGENE, Ore. -- Every once in a while, it's good to be running late. Katie Voigtlander ran 10:47.68 in the steeplechase at the Oregon relays, qualifying for Regionals after barely missing the mark--in two different ways--earlier in the season.

Voigtlander ran a Regional-qualifying time at the All-Cal Challenge on Feb. 28, but that meet was early in the season and outside of the qualifying window. In the ensuing weeks she would come close twice, with times of 10:53.50 at Cal/Nevada and 10:52.0 at the Big West Challenge Cup. Today's race at Oregon seals the deal and makes Voigtlander the fifth Gaucho to qualify for Regionals this season.

The Gauchos had several athletes competing in field events today, highlighted by the throwers and long jumpers. Tamara Thomas was the winner of Section B in the long jump, leaping 18-5 (5.61m). Tayler Williams jumped in Section A and took seventh at 18-1.75 (5.53m).

In the discus, Nicholas Sheuerman was second in Section B with a throw of 149-7 (45.59m). Scott Anderson was ninth in Section A at 156-5 (47.69m). Also in the throws, Alex Umstead placed third in Section B of the hammer at 173-2 (52.78m)

Back on the track, Scott Smith ran 3:47.78 in the 1500m to place ninth.

The Oregon Relays resume tomorrow at 10:00 a.m.
