SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Four UC Santa Barbara men's volleyball players have been named to the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation All-Academic Team, the conference announced Wednesday.

Sophomore setter Bryce Miller (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS), redshirt freshman opposite Kevin Donohue (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS), redshirt sophomore middle blocker Evan Licht (Manhattan Beach, Calif./Mira Costa HS) and junior setter Oliver Deutschman (Pacific Palisades, Calif./Crossroads HS) were each honored by the MPSF.

Deutschman, who played in 24 matches in 2012, paced the Gauchos in assists with 714 and was fourth in digs with 98.  He possesses a 3.11 grade point average with a major in anthropology.

Licht, a 3.16 student majoring in global studies, saw time in 21 matches this past season, finishing with a team-leading .396 hitting percentage and 75 kills, the fourth highest total on the team.  He also ranked third on the squad with 13 service aces.

Miller, who is majoring in financial mathematics and statistics, has a 3.59 grade point average.  He saw time in 15 matches and finished second on the team with 237 assists.  He also had 34 digs.

Donohue, who is going to major in economics and accounting, has a 3.44 grade point average.  He was second on the team with 204 kills in his 22 matches.  He also added 45 total blocks, third on the squad.

"I'm very proud of these four guys," said UCSB head coach Rick McLaughlin.  "They not only bring it every day in our gym, but they somehow manage to have great success in the classroom.  I feel lucky to get the chance to work with such dedicated student-athletes, and I'm excited about the influence they are having on the rest of our team. Working towards earning a UCSB degree is a great opportunity and they are definitely making the most of it."

Deutschman, Licht, Miller and Donohue are all expected to return and be key factors for the Gauchos in the 2013 season.
