Vince Devany Added to Men's Volleyball Coaching Staff

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.- The UCSB Men's Volleyball program is proud to announce the hiring of Vince Devany as the second Assistant Coach on Head Coach Rick McLaughlin's staff. In a related move, former second assistant Tyson Norton will be promoted to the first Assistant Coach position to fill the departure of Aaron Mansfield, who accepted a position as the Head Assistant Coach for the Santa Clara University Women's Volleyball program.

"We're very happy to keep Tyson and move him up. He has been a big part of the program for the past few years," said Head Coach Rick McLaughlin. "We're excited to bring Vince back as well, with all the experience he has had as a player and a leader on that Final Four squad."

McLaughlin wished Mansfield the best of luck, saying "Aaron did so much for our program this past year. He is a fantastic coach who will be a great Head Coach very soon. Our players and staff will miss him, but we are all happy for him and understand what a great opportunity he has ahead of him in Santa Clara."

Devany, a UCSB alum, was a three-year starter for the Gauchos, playing from 2008-2011. Over his four-year UCSB career, Devany amassed 4,625 assists, the third most in school history. His junior year campaign of 1,551 assists ranks as the fifth-most by a Gaucho in a single year.

Vince was the starting setter for the 2011 squad that advanced to the NCAA Final Four held in University Park, Pa. Devany, a deft ball-handler, recorded 86 assists over two matches in the NCAA tournament, ultimately falling short in a heart-wrenching five-game loss in the championship to Ohio St.

As a coach, Devany will share his volleyball acumen with the team's setters, including senior Oliver Deutschman and a pair of incoming freshmen.

With the promotion, Tyson Norton will be handling more on-court and off-court responsibilities, assisting McLaughlin in every facet of the program from practice coordination to recruiting efforts.

McLaughlin thinks highly of the future to come with these two young coaches aboard, saying "both these guys know the game and they know how we want to train these athletes and develop our program.
