No. 5 UCSB Eliminates UCLA in MPSF Quarters With Five-Set Comeback Win
SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – The fourth-seeded and fifth ranked UC Santa Barbara men’s volleyball team fought back from a 14-7 deficit in a win-or-go-home fourth set to ultimately score a five-game victory over fifth-seeded UCLA in the MPSF Tournament Quarterfinals in front of a season-high 2,000 fans at Rob Gym on Saturday night, setting up a second round matchup at top-seeded BYU, whom the Gauchos previously upset in the final week of the regular season.

Sophomore setter Jonah Seif was named to the All-MPSF First Team while four other Gauchos earned All-Conference recognition as well, the league announced on Thursday afternoon. UC Santa Barbara's five All-Conference honorees are the most in program history.

UCSB Athletics to Distribute Student Tickets For Saturday's Men's Volleyball Playoff Match
This Saturday's MPSF Tournament Quarterfinal match against UCLA – UC Santa Barbara's first posteason home match since 2007 – is expected to sell out, but students need not worry as UCSB Athletics will be distributing complimentary tickets to the first 200 students to show up to the Ticket Office at the Intercollegiate Athletics Building on campus this Thursday, Apr. 17.

Nielsen Earns MPSF Player of the Week Honors
Junior outside hitter Weston Nielsen was named the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Player of the Week on Monday afternoon after leading the fifth-ranked UC Santa Barbara men's volleyball team to an undefeated final week of the regular season with wins over Cal Baptist and regular season conference-champs BYU.

UCSB Clinches Playoff Match at Home with Upset of BYU
SANTA BARBARA, Calif.—Honoring the final match for seniors Evan Licht, Matt Hanley, Ryan Thompson, and Chad Kingi, the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos upset No.3 BYU in dominant fashion (21-25, 25-15, 25-22, 28-26). The win—in combination with UC Irvine’s loss tonight to Stanford—sets the Gauchos up to host a playoff match in Santa Barbara next Saturday. This marks the first time since 2007 the Gauchos have hosted a playoff match.

NORTHRIDGE, Calif.— Following a decisive win against Long Beach, the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos were unable to overcome Northridge, losing in four sets (25-18, 21-25, 25-23, 25-23). With the loss, UCSB falls to 15-8, 14-8 MPSF, but are still in contention to make—and host—a playoff match.

LONG BEACH, Calif.—The UC Santa Barbara Gauchos pushed passed a well-matched Long Beach State squad in five tight sets (16-25, 25-21, 23-25, 25-23, 15-12). Led by career numbers offensively by Matt Hanley's 21 kills—setup by Jonah Seif's career assists (61)—and defensively by Chad Kingi's 24 digs, UCSB improves to 15-7, 14-7 MPSF. Seif also dominated at the net by setting a career-best in solo blocks (3).

UCSB Displays Strong Rebound With Sweep of Pacific
STOCKTON, Calif. - Following a hard loss against Stanford the previous night, the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos rallied to dominate University of the Pacific in straight sets (25-15, 25-17, 25-23). This victory marks the first defeat of Pacific in straight sets since 2010 and the first win at Pacific since 2011. UCSB improves to 9-4 overall, 8-4 MPSF.

UCSB had previously defeated Stanford at home in five sets when the Cardinal was ranked No. 1 overall.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.- The No. 7 UC Santa Barbara Gauchos won their third straight game, defeating equally matched No. 6 Long Beach State in four tightly contested sets (30-28, 23-25, 25-21, 25-20). With the win, and Pepperdine’s concurrent loss at UC Irvine, the Gauchos now move into third place in the MPSF conference standings with a record of 8-3 overall, 7-3 in conference.
