SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - The No. 9 UC Santa Barbara men's volleyball team was not gracious to its host for the 2010 Hall of Fame Classic, sweeping Springfield College, 3-0, Friday night at Blake Athletic Center. Set scores were 39-37, 30-25, and 30-28 in favor of UCSB.
Jeff Menzel connected with 20 kills on 44 attempts while Cullen Irons tallied 17 kills on 277 total attacks for UCSB (8-8). Irons' .556 hitting percentage was second only to Scott Slaughter's .667 (9-1-12) clip. Sam Moisenco hit .500 and also added six block assists. Vince Devany passed out 58 assists.
For the Pride (8-6), AJ Nally had 16 kills and Mike Pelletier followed with 13 kills. Cal Polumbo hit .357 (7-2-14) for Springfield, but the Pride were out-swung .236 to .333 by UCSB.
Friday's match marks the just the third time this season the Gauchos have swept an opponent. They previously defeated Pacific, 3-0, on January 29 in Stockton before sweeping Harvard on Thursday night. UCSB improves to 7-1 on the road this year.
The Gauchos will face Ohio State tomorrow night at 8 p.m. ET in the championship match. Ohio State defeated George Mason in straight sets on Friday afternoon in their opening round tilt.
The Gauchos' next home match is Wednesday, March 3 against UC Irvine at Rob Gym. Match-time is set for 7 p.m.

Additionally, tickets are available by calling the Ticket Office at 805.893.UCSB or by visiting the Ticket Office, located in the Intercollegiate Athletics building on campus. Of course, you can also buy tickets at the Rob Gym entrance beginning one our prior to the start of the match. Individual match ticket prices are $7 for adults, $5 for seniors, and $3 for youths. UCSB students are free.
