SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Senior outside hitter Cullen Irons tallied 38 kills in UC Santa Barbara's three season-opening matches, leading the team in kills per set as the Gauchos made it to the title match of their own Gaucho Invitational this past weekend.

Irons, who is sporting quite the beard these days making him look eerily similar to Joaquin Phoenix's new look helped UCSB defeat No. 12 Cal State Northridge and No. 9 UCLA on Friday.

The senior from Hanford, Calif. tallied 30 kills in the two matches, including 18 against UCLA to send the No. 10 Gauchos into the tournament's title match vs. No. 5 BYU. Irons also had four block assists in the win over the Bruins.

In Saturday's match Irons finished with eight kills vs. the Cougars.
