What's Coming Up
After defeating No. 7 Long Beach State and falling to No. 1 USC last weekend, No. 6 UC Santa Barbara men's water polo will take on No. 8 UC Irvine (11-8, 0-3) at home on Saturday, Nov. 2, 2013 at 12 p.m. The Gauchos will then head to Palo Alto to face off against No. 4 Stanford on Sunday, Nov. 3, 2013 at 12 p.m.
For the Record
The Gauchos are heading into this weekend with a 15-6 overall record, and 2-2 in the MPSF Conference. UCSB has been ranked No. 6 in the NCAA men's water polo ranking all season.
Anchoring the Defense
Sophomore Chris Whitelegge has been a force in the goal all season. Whitelegge has remained the number one goalie in saves in the MPSF Conference, racking up 218 saves and averaging 14.06 saves per game.
Senior Matt Gronow has tallied 49 goals in only 19 games, averaging 2.6 goals per game. Junior Eric Van de Mortel is right behind him with 37 goals of his own. Gronow and Van de Mortel are tied for second in team assists, both tallying 29 assists each.
Up Ahead for Men's Water Polo
After this weekend, UCSB men's water polo will take on No. 3 Pacific (15-3, 2-1) on Sunday, Nov. 10, 2013 at 12 p.m. at Campus Pool.
