Played at Melbourne Grammar School under coach Trav Bloom...Was
his team's MVP and captain in 2008...Melbourne Grammar went
undefeated all four years he played...Won the Associated Public
School Water Polo Championship...Also competed for the swim team,
serving as team captain in 2008...Set school records in the 50 and
100 freestyle...Won the APS Swimming Championships...Also played
AFL football.
NATIONAL/CLUB
Played with the Victorian Tigers National League Club with which
he finished second in the 2007 National League Finals...Also
competed with Melbourne University Water Polo Club, which won the
State League I Championship...In 2007, he competed for the
Australian Youth Team in New Zealand and for the Australian
Schoolboys Team in Sydney, which he says are his most memorable
athletic achievements.

Matthew Barrett Gronow was born on Aug. 16, 1990 in
Australia...Parents are Rob and Jan Gronow...Has an older sister,
Ali, and an older brother, Chris, who played water polo at UCSB and
who he lists as his personal hero...Has yet to declare a major at
UCSB...Interests outside of water polo include surfing, eating and
sleeping...Names "The Shawshank Redemption" as his favorite movie
and the "Lord of the Rings" series as his favorite books...UCSB
