UCSB Sweeps Three on Final Day of Inland Empire Classic

LA VERNE, Calif. - Freshman Mark Knudtsen (Los Altos, Calif./Bellarmine Prep) scored eight goals and sophomore Coulson Lantz (Carlsbad, Calif./Carlsbad HS) added six, to lead UC Santa Barbara to a perfect 3-0 record on the final day of the Inland Empire Classic Sunday at the University of La Verne.

Coulson Lantz scored four of his goals in UCSB's first match of the day, an 11-10 win over Cal Baptist. Sophomore Robbie Bauer (Newbury Park, Calif./Newbury Park HS) added three goals in the win. Knudtsen had one score against the Lancers.

In the second match of the day, a 12-6 win over Pomona-Pitzer, Knudtsen scored three times to lead the way. Senior Jarrod Muenter (Alamo, Calif./San Ramon Valley HS), Coulson Lantz and his brother, freshman Chris Lantz, each scored a pair of goals. In thw victory over the Sagehens, the Gauchos piled-up 11 of their 12 goals in the final three quarters to blow-open a close match.

In the tournament finale, a 17-10 win over the host University of La Verne, Knudtsen and sophomore Alex Young (Mission Viejo, Calif/Capistrano Valley HS) each scored four goals while freshman Travis Watts (Chino Hills Calif./Ayala HS) added three goals.

UCSB finished the Inland Empire Classic with a 4-1 record. The Gauchos are now 5-3 on the season and will travel to Irvine, Calif., next weekend to take part in the Southern California Tournament, hosted by UC Irvine.
