No. 7 Gauchos Scare No. 2 Cal Before Dropping 10-5 Decision

BERKELEY, Calif. - After putting scare into No. 2 ranked Cal, the No. 7 UC Santa Barbara men's water polo team lost a 10-5 decision in the winners bracket of the 2007 Northern California Challenge on Saturday afternoon in Berkeley. The loss ended UCSB's six-match winning streak.

Playing stellar defense, the Gauchos took a 1-0 lead after one quarter of play as senior Ross Sinclair score the first of his two goal. The Golden Bears, however, responded by scoring two in the second quarter to make it a 2-2 game at half.

The Gauchos struggled through the second half as Cal dominated with an 8-3 goal advantage. The Bears had a 7-4 edge after three quarters and then outscored UCSB 3-1 in the final frame for the 10-5 victory.

The loss drop the Gauchos to 10-2 overall and it ends their six-match winning streak. UCSB will play the loser of a match between UCLA and Pepperdine on Sunday morning in Berkeley.
