STOCKTON, Calif. - The No. 10 UC Santa Barbara men's water polo team took ninth-place at the NorCal Tournament being hosted by Pacific this weekend. The Gauchos defeated No. 15 Santa Clara 14-6 on Sunday morning before No. 9 UC San Diego forfeited the ninth-place game due to travel conflicts. The Gaucho record improves to 7-3 overall.
Santa Clara jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first quarter and then stretched their advantage to 4-2 at halftime. The Gauchos came out of the break on fire and outscored the Broncos 7-0 in the third period to take a 9-4 lead. In the fourth, the Gauchos added five more goals to take the 14-6 win.
Sophomore Milos Golic led the team with six goals stretching his scoring streak to 14 games. Senior Miles Price chipped in three, bringing his weekend total to nine goals. Junior goalkeeper Michael Robinson tallied 12 saves.
UCSB was scheduled to play No. 9 UC San Diego in the ninth-place game, but the Tritons had to forfeit the game to make their flight home. The game is recorded as a 5-0 win for the Gauchos.
The Gauchos will take a week off from action before opening their Mountain Pacific Sports Federation schedule at USC on Oct. 4 at noon.
