IRVINE, Calif. -
Junior Tim Hutten scored four goals, all in the first half, to lead No. 7 UC Irvine past 15th-ranked UC Santa Barbara, 10-5, in non-conference action at the Anteater Aquatics Complex Sunday.
Hutten scored three times in the second quarter as the Anteaters (7-6) built an 8-2 halftime lead. Six other UCI players scored one goal each and senior goalie Joe Wynne had four saves.
UCI junior Ty Newland scored his first UCI goal with 58 seconds left in the opening quarter to give the Anteaters a 3-0 lead.
Freshman Travis Watts led the Gauchos (7-7 overall, 0-1 MPSF) with a pair of goals, both in the first quarter. Senior Jarrod Muenter, sophomore Coulson Lantz, and freshman Miles Price also found the back of the net for the Gauchos. Goalkeeper James Street recorded nine saves. Lantz's goal was his team-leading twenty-second of the season. With his two goals against Irvine, Watts now has seven on the year.
UCSB will resume action on Friday in Saratoga, Calif. when it takes on St. Francis N.Y. at 4:15 p.m. The Gauchos will then compete in the two-day Northern California Water Polo Tournament starting on Saturday in Berkeley, Calif.
