UCSB Splits Pair of Matches on Final Day of Southern California Invitational, Finishes 10th

LOS ANGELES - The eighth-ranked UC Santa Barbara water polo team split is matches on Sunday at the Southern California Invitational Tournament at USC, finishing 10th in the 12-team tournament.
In their first match of the day, the Gauchos overcame a 3-3 halftime tie with Air Force to post a decisive 10-6 victory. Led by sophomore Travis Watts, who scored three goals, UCSB outscored Air Force in the second half by a margin of 7-3. Junior Ross Sinclair, the Gauchos' leading scorer on the season, had two goals. Kendell Olds, a freshman, also had a pair.
In its second outing of the afternoon, Santa Barbara dropped a 10-8 decision to Loyola Marymount in the ninth-place match. Freshman Stefan Partelow scored a pair of goals to pace the Gauchos.
Junior Rick Wright started in goal for UCSB in both of its Sunday afternoon matches. Wright posted seven saves in the win over Air Force and four in the loss to Loyola Marymount.
The Gauchos,14-9 on the year, return home on Friday, Oct. 20, to host St. Francis College of New York in a 4:00 pm match at Campus Pool.
