Course Record Falls as UCSB and Cal Poly Bring in the 2012-13 Season
SANTA BARBARA, Calif.
Cal Poly's Laura Hollander opened the women's 5K finishing first, setting a new course record with a time of 16:42.12. On the men's side, UC Santa Barbara's Bhavik Kanzaria ran a time of 25:18.60, finishing fifth overall in the 8K.
Cal Poly won both meets. For the women, the mustangs edged out UCSB 29-33, while the men concluded with a final score of 23-45.
Junior Dani Moreno and junior Christine Cooperstein followed closely behind Hollander, placing in second and third, posting times of 17:37.62 and 17:42.58. UCSB's Baxter Frick managed to edge into seventh place in 25:22.79 for the men's team.
For the women's team, freshmen Maxine Goyette came in with a solid seventh place finish in 18:15.78, senior Cassie Brooker placed ninth overall in 18:24.11, and sophomore Bailey Miller closed in on twelfth place in 18:32.54. For the men, freshman Andrew Farkas (25:35.63), freshman Anthony Ortolan (25:35.47), and junior Juan Parades (25:38.86) closed in on 10th, 11th, and 12th place for UCSB.
The Gauchos return to action on Saturday, September 15th at the UC Riverside Invitational.
All unattached competitors were included in the final score.
