LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Seniors Jeremy Acosta and Juan Paredes finished 106th and 118th respectively as the UC Santa Barbara men's cross country team took 27th-place in the prestigious 40-team NCAA Division I Pre-National Meet hosted by the University of Louisville on Saturday.
Acosta rank a 24:31.2 over the 8 kilometer course while Paredes clocked a 24:37.3. A third Gaucho senior finished among the top 150 as Bhavik Kanzaria was 139th in a time of 24:45.9.
The Pre-National individual title was won by UTEP's Anthony Rotich, a freshman, who finished in 23:01.0, exactly 13 seconds ahead of Paul Chelimo of UNC-Greensboro. Colorado won the team championship, 72-127 over second-place BYU.
The field of UCSB runners was filled out by freshman Bryan Guijarro who finished 166th (25:00.2), senior Baxter Frick who finished 168th (25:00.6), freshman Anthony Ortolan who was 212th (25:24.9) and sophomore Bryce Rausa who was 244th (25:55.5).
The Gauchos return to action on Friday, Oct. 19 when they run at the Fullerton Invitational.
