Ortolan Wins Annual Lagoon Open, Gauchos Edged

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - Anthony Ortolan ran a 24:21.90 to win the 8K Lagoon Open on Saturday at UC Santa Barbara's Campus Lagoon.  The Gauchos were nipped in their annual dual meet with Cal Poly, 26-29.  The event was part of the Blue-Green Rivalry series.

Ortolan's time was nearly four seconds better than the second-place finisher, Mustang Chris Frias who ran a 24:25.70.

"We ran well as a team today," said head coach Pete Dolan.  "This was a good opening race for us and I was happy with our runs."

Cal Poly's Sean Davidson finished third while UCSB's Andrew Farkas was fourth.  Farkas recorded a time of 25:12.60.  Bryce Rausa and Tyler Brady were also top-10 finishers for the Gauchos.  Rausa was seventh in a time of 25:35.90 while Brady was ninth at 25:42.00.

UCSB returns to action on Saturday, September 14 when it travels south for the Riverside Invitational, hosted by UC Riverside.
