UCSB Finishes Sixth at Aztec Invitational

SAN DIEGO, Calif. -

Senior Scott Smith ran a 25:29 to finish tied for 15th, pacing UC Santa Barbara to a sixth-place finish in the 17-team Aztec Invitational in San Diego on Saturday.

Smith and junior Julian DeRubira, who finished tied for 42nd with a time of 26:03, were the Gauchos' top finishers among the 162 runners. Azusa Pacific's Aron Rono won the event in a time of 24:16.

As a team, UCSB scored 217 to finish sixth. BYU won handily with 32 points. The Cougar's top five runners each finished among the top-10. Northern Arizona (96), Minnesota (103), Air Force (133), and Chico State (135) rounded out the top-five.

Santa Barbara returns to action on Sept. 27 when it travels to the Stanford Invitational.
