Men's B-Team Takes 10th At Cal Poly Invite

Oct. 13, 2001

Stats

Freshman Scott McConville posted his best race as a Gaucho, placing 12th in the Cal Poly Invitational. Just half a second behind McConville was junior Darren Salmi. The pair shared the time of 27:43, and led the Gauchos' second string squad to a tenth place finish in a 15-team field. McConville and Salmi both intruded all other team's top 5 pack, including the meet winner and conference rival Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. As a team, the Gauchos succeeded in overcoming five other school's A-teams, including conference rivals UC Irvine and Cal State Northridge. The team totaled 218 points and were edged out by 3 points from taking a third conference opponent in Long Beach State (215).

Freshman Scott Brandos was the Gauchos' 3rd runner, placing 32nd, followed by Miguel Vasquez (79th) and Ron DiMaggio (82nd).

The Gaucho "B-Team" will prepare to compete again at the Fullerton Invitational this upcoming Friday. Because the Conference Championship race allows for teams to race nine athletes, the Gauchos may call upon one of the b-squad runners to prepare to run that race instead, which is scheduled for Oct. 27th, on the same San Luis Obispo Invitational course.
