SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – UC Santa Barbara women's basketball coach Carlene Mitchell completed her inaugural staff by announcing the hiring of assistant Natalie Jarrett on Monday.
Jarrett, a four-year letterwinner at UCLA, is no stranger to the women's game. She most recently served as the head women's basketball coach at Chadwick School and as a coach for the Amateur Athletic Union team, Cal Sparks, comprised of some of the most elite players of the South Bay.
During her six-year tenure at Chadwick her teams not only captured league titles but were top amongst their division in four of her six seasons. Jarrett led Chadwick to the C.I.F. title game this past year. Jarrett has been the head coach at Chadwick, located in Palos Verdes Peninsula, since 2005 and has helped numerous players go on to play basketball at the next level.
"From the moment Natalie Jarrett stepped into the Intercollegiate Athletics building I knew she was the perfect fit in completing my staff," Mitchell said. "Her versatility of coaching at a rigorous academic school and being a part of an elite AAU program gives her instant credibility throughout the state."
Jarrett has also worked previously as a sports academy director, a basketball counselor and served as a basketball coach at various levels before joining the Gaucho staff.
"I am thrilled to be a part of Coach Mitchell's staff," Jarrett said. "Although I have been on the West Coast for the past decade, Coach Mitchell's achievements and her coaching pedigree are not foreign to anyone out here. I am looking forward to getting on the floor with this team and continuing the Gauchos' winning tradition."
