SANTA BARBARA, Calif. - UC Santa Barbara Athletics and its media rights holder Nelligan Sports Marketing are pleased to announce that KZSB AM1290 will be the new radio home to women's basketball.
"With our partners at News-Press radio and an enhanced menu of free live video and audio streaming through the Big West Conference media agreements, our women's games will now be more available than ever," said UCSB Director of Athletics Mark Massari.
• All AM1290 broadcasts, regardless of start time, will be aired live and will include a full 30-minute pregame show. The games will also be streamed live on newspress.com and UCSBgauchos.com. The video for all non-conference home games and all Big West Conference games, home and road, will be streamed live for free on BigWest.TV. In the past several years a majority of the Gaucho women's games, including postseason, would not air live before 5:00 p.m.
• When there is a conflict with Gaucho men's basketball, the women's games will be streamed live on UCSBgauchos.com with the full pregame and postgame shows. Most games, including all non-conference games and home games and all league games, will be featured live on BigWest.TV absolutely free.
• Each game will be preceded by pregame show that will begin 30 minutes before tip-off and followed by a postgame show.
• In addition to the games, AM1290 will also air "Monday's with Coach Mitchell" beginning on Oct. 22 when UCSB head coach Carlene Mitchell will join morning show host Baron Ron Herron from 8:50 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
"We're thrilled to welcome Gaucho Women's Basketball to the News-Press Radio roster," said KZSB AM1290 general manager, Les Carroll. "Coach Mitch is building a new women's basketball dynasty and we couldn't be more excited about the opportunity to share the next three seasons with our AM1290 listeners and newspress.com visitors."
Mitchell Clements will be in his first season as the play-by-play voice of Gaucho women's basketball. Clements will be joined on many broadcasts by veteran color announcer and former UCSB and Los Angeles Lakers' player Don Ford.
AM1290 also broadcasts Gaucho men's soccer, men's basketball and baseball games, as well as the weekly Talk'n Gauchos radio show every Tuesday from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. from the Beachside Bar Café. During the season, Coach Mitchell and UCSB men's coach Bob Williams will join Gerry Fall, The Voice of the Gauchos, and appear weekly on Talk'n Gauchos. In addition, Williams is a regular of Baron Ron Herron on Thursday's from 8:50 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
Season tickets for Gaucho women's and men's basketball are currently on sale and this year begins a two-year celebration of the 35th anniversary of the Thunderdome. The "Thunderdome35" celebration includes commemorative season tickets that recognize some of the greatest players who have run the floor in the storied venue. In 2013-14, the season tickets will pay tribute to the greatest moments in Thunderdome history. This year the Gaucho women's team has home dates scheduled with USC, Kentucky and Kansas State, as well as conference rivals Cal Poly and Long Beach State.
