As a junior, played in 20 games for the Gauchos…Made her UCSB debut against Nevada (12/21/13)…She recorded two double-doubles in Big West play with 10 points and a career-best 15 rebounds at Cal State Fullerton (2/22/14) and a career-high 16-point, 12-rebound game versus Cal Poly (3/8/14)…Scored 119 points throughout the season with an average of 6 points per game…Brought down 118 total rebounds…Completed the season with 17 steals and 16 blocks…Recorded a season high of 16 personal points in a closing game against Cal Poly.
Vanderbilt University (2010-13)
Clair was a part of two NCAA Tournament teams while at Vanderbilt under the tutelage of Melanie Balcomb…Some of her top performances as a freshman include scoring 12 points versus Houston State (11/22/11), recording three blocks against University of South Carolina Upstate (11/16/11), and picking up four steal against Florida State 12/22/11)…Clair was named to the SEC Academic Honor Roll for the 2011-12 year and also was recognized in the Dean’s List in the fall semester of 2011 and 2012.
Clair played at David W. Butler High School under Head Coach Stephanie Butler…She earned seven varsity letters in basketball (four) and track & field (3), while with the Bulldogs…As a senior, Clair was named a McDonald’s All-American nominee, an All-State First Teamer, and the North Carolina Athlete of the Year by the Charlotte Observer…As a captain, she led her team to a No. 17 national ranking and a Division 4A State Championship in 2010…Clair helped her team to Southwestern Conference tournament championships and state tournament berths in all four of her seasons…She scored 1,281 points as a four-year starter and was selected to the all-conference team three times…In the summer of 2009, Clair was selected to travel to Japan with the Candace Parker Aces, an Adidas Grassroots Global travel team…In track & field, she was a part of a state championship team her freshman year and earned three individual state titles in shot put.
Clair Evian Watkins was born on July 7, 1992 to Mark and Nancy Watkins in Santa Clara, California…She has an older brother, Stewart (35), and a younger brother, Jackson (13)…At UCSB, she is working towards her master’s in education from the Gevirtz Graduate School of Education…Clair roots for the San Francisco 49ers, Atlanta Braves, and the Carolina Panthers…Her favorite movies are Million Dollar Baby, Mean Girls, and Lion King…She watches the Walking Dead, Family Guy, the Simpsons, and American Horror Story…Clair named 1984 and Spider-Man and Batman comic books as her top reads, while she names Emily Dickenson, Oscar Wilde, and Stan Lee as her favorite writers…She enjoys listening to music by Lady Gaga, Eminem, Lana Del Rey, and Johnny Cash…In her free time, Clair enjoys writing and biking…Her most memorable sports moments are winning state championships in basketball and track & field during her senior year and plying in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off Tournament in 2012…Clair was also recruited by Oregon State, Virginia Tech, and Fresno State…Goes by the nickname Big Baby.
