SANTA BARBARA, Calif. – Following the conclusion of her first season playing for Norwegian club Sandvika Basketballklubb, former UC Santa Barbara women's basketball guard Makala Roper was named the league's MVP.

The Seattle, Wash. native was Sandvika's leading scorer for the season, as she put up a team-high 19.1 points per game. She also averaged 5.4 rebounds and 4.1 assists.

"I've really enjoyed my time playing in Norway. I've learned a lot about myself as a person and as a player. It was a new experience for me and everyone welcomed me with open arms from the beginning," Roper said. "I also want to thank the club and coach for giving me this opportunity to pursue my dream of being a professional basketball player. The relationships I have created with everyone will stay with me forever."

A graduate of UCSB's class of 2018, Roper stands at No. 6 in Gaucho history for three-pointers made, having knocked down 152 triples over a productive four years in Santa Barbara. She posted career averages of 7.2 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.9 assists from 2014-18 before signing with Sandvika Basketballklubb last September.

"It's really exciting to see her find success at the professional level," said UCSB head women's basketball coach Bonnie Henrickson. "I'm happy that all of her hard work has paid off."
