Tasha McDowell begins her fourth season as an assistant on the Gaucho coaching staff, third as the program's recruiting coordinator. In addition, McDowell will move over from the defensive side to help coordinate the UCSB offense and also play a more active role in the team's community outreach. McDowell, a 1997 graduate of St. Ambrose University in Davenport, Iowa, with a degree in mathematics, came to Santa Barbara with four years of collegiate coaching experience. In 2000-01 she was the second assistant at Bradley University, where she aided in the Braves' recruiting efforts. Prior to that, McDowell spent two seasons at the University of Dayton, helping the Flyers record their first winning campaign in six years and advance to the 2000 Postseason WNIT. McDowell began her coaching career as an assistant at St. Ambrose in 1997. The native of Moline, Ill., played three years of collegiate basketball, the first two of which were spent at Illinois Central College. After graduating from ICC, McDowell attended Southwest Missouri State before transferring to St. Ambrose. In her lone season with the Queen Bees, the team posted a 27-7 record and advanced to the NAIA National Tournament. A point guard, McDowell averaged 13.4 points, 5.1 assists and 3.6 steals as a senior, all team highs.
